Join Katherine for a 5 mile 1000ft elevation gain hike on the Acorn Creek Loop in Silverthorne. This loop takes us on a beautiful journey through aspen forests, along babbling creeks to an overlook with outstanding views of the Gore Range.
This tail is rated intermediate level difficulty and is best suited for participants with recent experience hiking at higher elevations as the trail begins at 8,700ft and gains 1000ft of elevation in 2.5 miles.
The trail is well established dirt single track with no major obstacles. There are several creek crossings over bridges or large logs, but the water is very low at this time so many can be walked across in hiking boots with good water resistance.
This trail is shared with equestrians so we will encounter some horses and their poop.
Be sure to pack at least a liter of water, snacks/lunch, rain/wind layer, warm layer, hat, sunglasses, hiking poles, knee braces.
This time of year temperatures change rapidly, be prepared for temps in the high 30's low 40's in the morning and reaching the high 60s by noon.
