Name of walk/hike: Monument Rock Extended Loop

Nestled in the southeastern pocket of the Pike National Forest, this trail is mainly packed dirt single tracks, with plenty of shade and a gentle incline to the top.

Meeting place (directions): 

1. Take Exit 161 off I-25 in Monument, CO.
2. Head west on CO-105, then turn onto Second Street (which becomes Mitchell Ave).
3. Turn right onto Mt. Herman Road.
4. The trailhead and parking area are about 3/4 mile further west on Mt. Herman Road, at the corner of Nursery Road.

Difficulty: Easy

Distance: 2.7 mi

Elevation gain: 259 ft.

Dogs OK? Yes, well-behaved dogs on leash.

Be sure to bring:

1. Appropriate clothing for the weather.

2. Comfortable hiking or athletic shoes.

3. Water bottle and snacks.

4. Sunscreen/sun wear/lip balm/sunglasses.
