In partnership with AdventHeath “Walk With Us” on the High Line Canal from Fly’n B Park!
Leader(s): Blaine with Jan, Cal and Ilan
Description: As on each month’s 3rd Saturday, we have the “Walk With Us” program in collaboration with AdventHealth. We’ll have the opportunity to interact with their cancer-care professionals in a fun, relaxed, non-clinical setting. Think about the general cancer treatment questions you’ve been wanting to ask, but didn’t feel you should take up valuable clinic time.
We’ll have foothill and mountain views from the cottonwood-lined trail and pass through the Wind Crest retirement village before we have the canal on one side and the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch on the other. This will be an out-and-back outing. The canal is above the pond. The hill is very short but a bit steep. I’m glad to help.
Where: Flyin’ B Park, 2910 Plaza Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. Just South of C470 and East of Santa Fe Drive but a bit tricky to get to. From Santa Fe Drive just North of C470, turn East on County Line Drive (note that County Line does not continue West from Santa Fe). Take the 2nd right (South) at the South Park Circle / Erickson Blvd intersection. Go under C470 and take the first left (East) on to Plaza Drive. Go a couple hundred feet and turn right into the Flyin’ B parking lot. If coming from the East, another option is to take Plaza Drive West from Lucent Blvd. If coming from the South up Santa Fe Blvd, you can turn right on Mill Vista Road (south of C470) and go all the way through the Wind Crest retirement complex to Plaza Drive and turn right.
Plus Code: HX6F+XPH
If mobility-challenged, as you turn into the parking lot, turn left instead of turning right. There is a circle-drive drop-off and couple handicap spaces along with a few more spaces up the short hill by the old homestead (build in 1906, was once a gangster’s illegal gambling house). We’ll meet at the large group picnic shelter by the small pond next to the homestead and then go up a very short incline to the fine gravel trail along the canal.
Entrance fees: None
Distance: 2-3 miles depending on the group’s input -- out-and-back along the canal
Elevation gain: Negligible once on the canal trail
Dogs allowed: Yes, if well-behaved and on leash
Toilets at the trailhead: Yes
Be sure to bring: Water, sunscreen, hat and desire to get out and enjoy nature
