Please join Ed Robb and Stephanie Lenkey for our End of Summer Adventure as we explore Rocky Mountain National Park via Old Fall River Road and Trail Ridge Road. We will carpool to the Fall River Road entrance (Route 34) and drive up Old Fall River Road. This is a one-way dirt road that will connect to Trail Ridge Road. Our first stop will be Chasm Falls. Next, we will proceed to the Alpine Visitor Center and hike a short trail to the top of the Park. The views up there are spectacular. Bring your camera! The elevation gain is about 140 feet. We will be at about 12,000 feet above sea level. We will then continue on Trail Ridge Road to Poudre Lake and the Continental Divide and then stop at Lake Irene for lunch. After lunch, we'll return via Trail Ridge Road.
If time permits we may stop on our way out of the park along Trial Ridge Road for more "Ooo Ahs" on our descent back to Golden. We need to leave Estes Park by 2:00pm to be back at The Taj by 3:30pm due to other commitments.
Note: Be sure to give your driver $5 for gas.
MEETING PLACE: We will leave from the Kiss and Ride stop in front of the RTD parking structure at the Jefferson Country Justice Building (aka The Taj), in Golden at 6:30 AM sharp so plan to be there early enough to load up before then. DO NOT be late. The Park requires timed entry reservations after 9:00am so we want to be there by about 8:00a to avoid having to get reservations.
The RTD parking structure is next to the terminus of the Light Rail, Jefferson County Pkwy, Golden, CO 80401.
The best way to get there is to enter the following Google Plus code as the destination in Google Maps:
PRG2+F3 Golden, Colorado
NOTE: Do not wait until the morning of the Adventure to figure out how to get to the parking structure. Be sure you know how to get to the meeting place long before the meeting time as we may not wait for you if you are late.
This will be a full day adventure so please bring plenty of water, snacks and lunch.
Please make sure to bring sunscreen as we will be above tree line. The Alpine Visitor Center is at 12,000' so its weather can be vastly different from Estes Park and can change on a dime so also bring a rain jacket and cool weather outerwear just in case.
We are limited on space so this event will only be open to a total of 15 people.
