Join Glenn Bultmann for one of the most iconic hikes in the San Juan Mountains with a summer trek up Engineer Mountain—timed to coincide with peak wildflower season. This moderate-to-challenging hike offers stunning panoramic views, lush meadows, and a vibrant display of Colorado’s alpine flora
Meeting place: Pass Creek Trailhead (off U.S. 550, just north of Coal Bank Pass)
Toilets at trailhead? Bathrooms across the road in paved parking lot of Coal Bank Pass rest area
Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous
Distance: ~6 miles round trip
Elevation gain: ~2,400 ft
Highest point: ~12,900 ft
Dogs OK? Yes, if well behaved
Be sure to bring:
1.Appropriate clothing for the weather (layers, rain jacket, etc.)
2.Water
3.Trail snacks and lunch
4.Sunscreen/sun wear/lip balm/sunglasses
