Leader(s): Blaine, Jan, Victoria and Jose for a 1-4 mile walk at Northridge Trail along Sand Creek in Highlands Ranch.
Where: Northridge Trail Along Sand Creek in Highlands Ranch. Go South on Broadway from C470. Go past the Dad Clark Drive and Northridge Road intersections. Take the next left (East) into the Highlands Ranch Community Center and Northridge Recreation Center entrance. Go past the Recreation Center and park at very end of the parking lot by the ball fields.
Description: For those of us who appreciate developers who started incorporating trails and preserving green belts along waterways, this is great example. There are views of the foothills and Mt. Blue Sky from both the main concrete-paved main trail and the dirt trails that allow for looped outings. If we have wheelchair or other participants wanting to stick to a flatter and shorter outing, we’ll do a tour around the upper park level to start. For those wanting a longer outing we’ll take the gradually-sloped concrete path down to the stream and follow it gently upstream so we can return downstream. If there is a sub-group who is interested in a more energetic outing, we’ll divide into to two groups, both led by experienced LBL volunteers.
Entrance fees: No
Distance: 1-4 miles depending on the groups' interests
Elevation gain: Negligible for initial loop around the park. Minor for a longer outing along the creek (50 feet +/-)
Dogs allowed: No
Toilets at the trailhead: Yes
Be sure to bring: Water, sunscreen, hat and desire to get out and enjoy nature
