Description: Daniel's Park has a very interesting  history- including the last place Kit
Carson built a campfire! The park is well-known as a bison preserve, but Jan did not
get to see any on her recon outing in early March. She did, however, get to spot a
bobcat (who also spotted her) about 25 feet away. She says “Bobcat” (she capitalized
it, apparently she named the bobcat, “Bobcat”) finally retreated and she didn’t have to,
in her words, “make the ultimate sacrifice for LBL!”.  I did confirm that she really
meant “bobcat” and not “mountain lion”. This is good news!
This is an out and back trail with several scenic overlooks – 0.2, 0.46 and about 1 mile
out. The trail guide lists it as easy ~ which it is. There are also large boulders along the
trail which could be used to rest as needed. There are picnic tables at the two overlooks
with beautiful mountain views and bison open space. The trail is heavily packed dirt that
is wheelchair accessible.

We picked this outing  because we just have to hear more about Jan’s adventure in person! We’ll finish the series in Waterton Canyon and
hear about Blaine getting trapped between a herd of Bighorn Sheep and the South
Platte River. We’ve taken our trail recons very seriously and look forward to sharing our
adventures. Joking aside, the point has been to make sure that, as we try to reach a
more challenged cancer community, your safety and enjoyment, is our ultimate priority.
